Photography Tour

Welcome to our Bird Photography Tour service, We are the ‘Number One’ company when it comes to bird photography tours in Thailand and South-East Asia. We understand the minds and hearts of wildlife photographers, and we believe that our expertise and experience can support you to achieve the photographic results you hope for, and dream about.
Every year, we find and offer new spots for bird photography, some of them are for our guests only, and not available to the wider public. Through the knowledge and expertise of our professional guides we can turn a difficult challenge into something easy for you, as they assist you to bring your camera lens in close to shoot the bird species you desire.

In the tropical and humid conditions of South-East Asia it can be very difficult to take photographs of birds amongst dense foliage. We can make it easier for you, because of our knowledge of the best sites, the seasons and various methods for bringing the birds closer to you.

Thailand is the premier region for bird photography, because there are birds present everywhere and their habitats are richer and more diverse than other countries. See below, for example, for the use of small forest pools as excellent places for photographic opportunities.

Myanmar is also rich in birds, though not as widely spread as in Thailand, Mostly we bring our guests to the Irawadee River in Bagan, where early morning and evening can be very productive for photography. Mt.Victoria is a good place as well, where a small pool attracts birds which are less shy than usual and seem almost to welcome the photographer.

Vietnamtakes third place in our recommended locations; it is a country with few local bird photographers. In Cat Tient and Cuc Phoung national parks we have a good spot for photos of the Bar-billed Pitta and Blue-naped Pitta.

Laos is less favourable for photography as many species are very shy of people, because of persistent shooting of birds and mammals for food and sport.

Bo Nok

‘Bo’ in Thai means Small Pool , and ‘Nok’ is Bird.
These small bird pools, created within natural habitats are magic places for watching and photographing birds at close range as they come to bathe, drink and feed. The first was created by local people on the edge of Kaeng Krachan national park. Others have been created inside other parks, such as Khai Yao, Mae Wong, Huai Kha Khang and other places and habitats across Thailand.

The first Bo Nok near Kaeng Krachan park was created in 2008 by local farmers who had previously been hunters, and so had close knowledge of the movements of mammals and birds within the forest. Near the pool special hides were built, from which birdwatchers and photographers can get wonderfully close views.
Each day the shallow pool (3x4 feet, with a depth of 4 inches) is replenished with fresh water, and fruit is left to attract the wildlife. Birds are active between 0700 and 1730 hours, and especially busy bathing when the temperature is around 30 degrees and the sun is shining.

More than 35 species of bird have been recorded in one day, including Bar-backed Partridge, Scaly-breasted Partridge, Kalij Pheasant, Red Junglefowl, Crested Goshawk, Red-legged Crake, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Eared Pitta, Emerald Dove, White-browned Scimitar-babbler, Large Scimitar-babbler, Black-crested Bulbul, Black-headed Bulbul, Stripe-throated Bulbul, Racket-tailed Treepie (see photo taken by Phil, a Malaysian birder, inside the hide), Green Magpie, Lesser and Geater Necklaced Laughingthrush, Brown-cheeked Fulvetta, Siberian Blue Robin, White-rumped Shama, Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher.  Small mammals seen include Greater Mouse Deer and various squirrels.

Please contact Wild Bird Eco to ensure an itinerary which includes a visit to the Bo Nok.

The best season for this place is December – May.
